Tiger Pan's Innovative Design for Tsingtao White Beer Receives Platinum A' Packaging Design Award

The design world is abuzz with the recent unveiling of Tsingtao's new packaging for its white beer. The innovative design, crafted by the renowned designer Tiger Pan, has been awarded the prestigious Platinum A' Packaging Design Award in 2021. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and realization of this design.

Established in 1903 by British and German businessmen, Tsingtao Beer is a brand with a rich history. Its beer products have won numerous international awards, and the white beer is one of its key products, known for its fruity flavor and cloudy body. The challenge for Tiger Pan was to create a design that not only conveyed the long history of the Tsingtao brand but also allowed consumers to perceive the excellent quality of its products from the packaging.

The inspiration for the design came from a Gold Certificate won by Tsingtao at the 1906 Beer Championship in Munich. The design incorporates elements from this certificate, such as lilacs, wheat, butterflies, beer barrels, and the goddess Hestia. From afar, the Tsingtao factory, museum, brewing masters, and another goddess can be seen. The color palette of white and blue, contrasted with a touch of red and gold, sets the label apart from the glass bottle.

One of the unique properties of this design is the upgrade of the Tsingtao logo. By adjusting the typeface and adding elements like a cast with a gold and wooden texture, a family-crest-like totem was created, offering an authentic historical touch. The detailed packaging scheme and strict control of printing make the product appear mature and professional.

The design was realized using aluminum for the can and glass for the bottle. The project started in February 2020 in Shandong and was completed in May in Shenzhen. It was launched to market in June. The cost to produce each can is $0.07, and each bottle costs $0.1. The retail price is $1.5 per can and $1.8 per bottle.

The design team included Tiger Pan, Qian Chi, illustrator Ping Yi, photographer Juanjuan Wu, and project manager Krystal You. The copyrights for the design belong to Tsingtao Beer Co., Ltd., 2021. The Platinum A' Design Award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing.
